IKAI, Yuichi Movie

Kyoto Ware

Profile

He came from the merchant family of pottery in Gojozaka, Kyoto prefecture.
Although ash glaze decoration and celadon are characteristic of his arts, he also makes the wide range of potteries such as jars, flower vessels, gulps, plates, and tea bowls.
With his ash glaze decoration, emerald green color in the bottom of a tea bowl is distinctive.
Natural cracks on a tea bowl as a part of art shows the accomplishment this artist has reached.
His stylish wares are highly praised in a lot of famous Japanese restaurants whose cuisine is served with this artist’s art pieces.
It is obvious this artist is the leading figure of the future Kyoto craft association.
