Hagi Ware

Profile

After graduated from Keio university, he worked for fishing company.
Being drawn into charm of Hagi Ware, he decided to make ceramics after resignation.
He puts new life into his ceramic with his original technique “Ensai” based on inspiration when he travelled to Silk Road.
Following his family business for 30 years, he pursues the Hagi Ware’s balance between form and color with his mind in importance of the form.
Ensai which reminds of Yohen (kiln mutation effect) with purplish red color and an appearance of Ryujin (Dragon King) on Hakuyu (white glaze) is an original view of the world not to be seen elsewhere.
And unconventional form to be seen in a water jar with a handle gives us an impression of evolution in the limitation.
In 2006, he was designated as Intangible Cultural Asset as a holder of Hagi Ware Techniques by Yamaguchi prefecture.
The contemporary ceramic artist who represents Hagi Ware.
