Ceramic Feature

Shigaraki Chawan (信楽茶碗)

This is the Shigaraki ware crafted by ARAKAWA, Satoshi (荒川智).
He made the shape by throwing on the potter's wheel and it was fired in the kiln called "angama".
It is traditional tea bowl called "kutsugata chawan" that wholly transformed into the oval shape.
Traces of ark shells can be seen because flowing glaze had accumulated and become harden.
They prevent bowls from getting stuck together.
