Shigaraki Chawan (信楽茶碗)
This is the Shigaraki ware crafted by ARAKAWA, Satoshi (荒川智).
Firing in a cave kiln.
He made the shape by throwing on the potter's wheel.
It is traditional tea bowl called "kutsugata chawan" that wholly transformed into the oval shape.
Traces of ark shells can be seen because flowing glaze had accumulated and become harden.
They prevent bowls from getting stuck together.
Height : 7.5 cm
Width : 12.8 cm
Diameter : 11.0 cm
Arakawa moved to Shiga to make his unique ceramics. Simple design with burnt and mild natural glaze are characterized by firing in the anagama wood-fired kin.
