Okada Kiln
Hagi Ware
Profile
After graduated from Keio university, he worked for fishing company.
Being drawn into charm of Hagi Ware, he decided to leave the company and started making ceramics.
He puts new life into ceramic with his original “Ensai” based on inspiration when he travelled to Silk Road.
Following his family business for 30 years, he realized how important the form is. He cares about the balance between the shape and the color.
There are two elements in Ensai which reminds us of "yohen" (kiln mutation effect) and "ryujin" (dragon King) on white glaze.
Unconventional form makes us feel an evolution, such as handled water jar.
In 2006, he was designated as Intangible Cultural Asset as a holder of Hagi Ware Techniques by Yamaguchi prefecture.
