ONO, Hakuko
Kohakutogeisha
Profile
ONO, Hakuko was born as the eldest daughter of the late ONO, Kozan.
She studied the ceramics under Kozan Kiln which her father established.
Afterwards, she was shocked to see the late KATO Hajime's Yurikinsai (underglaze gokd),and worked on the study.
She failed repeatedly at first when it was fired, such as tearing off the gold foils.
She gradually acquired the stable technique, and selected for the Exhibition of Traditional Art Crafts of SEIBU Area in Japan.
Thereafter, she won a prize repeatedly in the domestic public exhibition, and her art was collected at the foreign museum.
Yurikinsai is the technique to paste the thick foils on the clay, and to glaze of the low temperature sintering and to be fired.
Gold foils become elegant after firing six times from an unglazing stage.
It is the very delicate process and the Japanese unique technique which glitters profoundly.
She was recognized as the holder of Saga Prefecture Important Intangible Cultural Asset Ceramics "Tougei Yurikinsai" in 1992.
She passed away in 1996.
